The Fiscal Situation
The City wants to do a better job providing services that make Turlock a good place to live, work and raise a family.
Our job is getting harder; with the economic crisis caused by the Coronavirus pandemic, state takeaways of local funds, and the ongoing increases in the costs of providing local services, the City is making significant budget cuts to every department, impacting the services our residents have told us they value, including:
- Maintaining 911 emergency medical response/services/fire protection
- Retaining local businesses and jobs
- Protecting Turlock’s ability to respond to emergencies and natural disasters
- Keeping public areas safe and clean
- Protecting Turlock’s long-term financial stability
- Addressing homelessness and vagrancy
Measure A
On July 6, 2020, The Turlock City Council placed Measure A on the November ballot for voter consideration.
If approved by Turlock voters this November, Measure A – the City of Turlock, 911 Safety/Emergency Medical Response, Community Services Measure – would enact a 3/4-cent sales tax to generate local funds that could not be taken by the County, State, or Federal governments. By law, all Measure A funds would be required to be used in Turlock.
Fiscal Accountability
To ensure that funds are used efficiently, effectively, and as promised, Measure A includes tough fiscal accountability requirements, requiring annual independent financial audits, citizen oversight, and public disclosure of spending. By law, all Measure A funds must remain in Turlock and cannot be taken by the County or State government.
PLEASE MAKE AN INFORMED DECISION IN THE UPCOMING MUNICIPAL ELECTION. If you are a member of a civic organization and would like to receive an informational presentation about Measure A, please contact Toby Wells at (209) 668-5540 or by email at TWells@turlock.ca.us.
In addition to Measure A, voters will also have an opportunity to vote on local City Council and Treasurer candidates.
