CANDIDATE STATEMENT – SECRETARY

CHARLOTTE CALVARIO

TCEA Board,

Hi, my name is Charlotte Calvario, and I have been working for the City of Turlock for a little over 2 years as an Engineering Project Coordinator.

I am honored to have been invited by two existing TCEA members to pursue the TCEA Secretary position and upon listening to what they had to share, my interest has only risen. I am greatly passionate about keeping others safe and practicing equality among all peoples, regardless of their background demographics. I believe we all have the right to speak and we all deserve to have our voices heard, and TCEA’s principals align greatly with my personal vision of what our employee rights should look like at the City of Turlock.

Having studied Engineering at UC Merced, I had the pleasure of learning about the importance of ethics and how engineers are to “hold paramount the safety, health, and welfare of the public in the performance of their professional duties”(National Society of Professional Engineers). I take this to heart and practice implementing these fundamentals in my day to day life. I would surely implement these core values into my role with TCEA, if selected. Currently, I also represent my Engineering Division as a Safety Committee member, where I get to participate in bi-monthly safety inspections and meetings with the City’s Risk Management Director. For these reasons, I believe I would be a great fit for the TCEA Secretary position.

Cordially,

Charlotte Calvario

LISA SCHIMMELFENNIG

I am nominating myself for TCEA Secretary. I have about 15 years experience doing minutes for various boards, commissions and city council meetings. For 13 years, I was the Planning Commission Secretary for the City of Manteca, where I compiled and distributed the agenda transcribed the minutes of the planning commissions meetings. Coming to the City of Turlock, I started my time here working as Deputy City Clerk/City Manager’s Office where I was in charge of the Redistricting Committee, the Measure A Committee, and I also worked the City Council meetings and was the sole Clerk of the City Council for a few months before hiring our previous City Clerk, Julie Christel. Along with my vast Secretary experience, I am also very passionate about our rights as employees and making sure that we get everything back that we have worked so hard to earn.

Thank you for this opportunity.
